Diabetes and cancer are diagnosed within the same individual more frequently than would be expected by chance even when adjusted by age. Individuals with diabetes, depending on the type, are more likely to have certain cancers. Cancer treatments can cause difficulty with blood glucose levels. Based on a thorough assessment and person-centered approach, this session will cover management of pancreatic cancer-related diabetes, type 1 diabetes secondary to immunotherapy, cancer medications and steroids that cause hyperglycemia, the effects of enteral and parenteral nutrition, and partial or total pancreatectomy.
