Life-long health conditions like T1D require reliable access to resources such as insulin, glucose monitors, and supplies. Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems are the gold standard for T1D management according to Section 7 of the American Diabetes Association’s Standards of Care in Diabetes 2025. Disparities in access to healthcare resources, influenced by socio-economic factors (SDOH), can negatively impact a person's ability to carry out their treatment plan and health outcomes. These barriers, including food security, transportation, housing, and health literacy, are particularly challenging for pediatric patients, where early interventions are critical to preventing long-term complications. In this session, the presenter reviews the results of a survey assessing the socio-economic factors affecting healthcare access and outcomes for pediatric patients and their caregivers and how they used the results to develop interventions aimed at improving CGM access and consistent use.
